GUESTBOOK POSTING TIPS

Guestbook Posting Tips

If you are making a long post, open up your word processor like Notepad, Microsoft Word, Write, etc. and compose the message. If the word processor has a spelling checker, you can use this. Then go to the Guestbook entry page and copy and paste what you have just typed into the large box where you normally would enter the message. Don't forget to save your message periodically on your hard drive if it is a long one.

Do NOT put your e-mail address in your comments anywhere or you will be deluged with spam. I have been on the Internet since 1991 (click here to see the first thing I ever posted, which was in a Usenet newsgroup) and I get dozens, if not hundreds, of e-mails PER DAY. As an experiment, years ago I once (like ONE TIME) posted to some Usenet newsgroup using an alias at one of my domain names and I still periodically get spam addressed to this alias.

If the spam code doesn't work, this is because someone else has a browser open at the same time as you, and they beat you to using this code. In order to solve this problem:

  1. Copy and paste what you have typed into a word processor like Notepad, Microsoft Word, Write, etc. If you are already doing this as per the first tip above, then you are ahead of the game.
  2. Go back to the main Guestbook page and start the procedure all over again.
  3. Copy and paste the text you put into the word processor back into the Comments box on the Guestbook entry page.

HTML does not work, so if you put <B> and </B> around your comments, for example, they will not be in bold. As well, http:// addresses will not appear as clickable links; neither will e-mail addresses (which you should not be entering anyway, as per the second tip above).

It's not necessary to hit the Enter or Return key at the end of each line that you type on screen, like a typewriter. The "editor" in the Guestbook will format your comments into paragraphs.

Do not make postings ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS. As per standards of Internet etiquette (known as "netiquette"), this is called SHOUTING. It also makes you look STUPID.

Keep your posting on topic, and do not use the forum as a means to promote your script or some other clever idea, trying to ingratiate yourself with people working on a remake of Five-O, for example. People who persist in abusing this rule will have their access to the Guestbook restricted and/or terminated, possibly interfering with the ability of others from the same ISP being able to post.

Be aware that all postings are subject to editing or deletion. IP addresses are also logged whenever you make a posting. (What's an IP Address?)

If you return to the Guestbook after making your posting, and your posting is not there, then HIT THE REFRESH BUTTON on your browser!
